Cáo Xiàozhōng 曹孝忠 (fl. Zhènghé period, 1111–1118, 北宋), Northern-Sòng official-physician with the title Tíjǔ yīxué 提舉醫學 (Director of Medical Studies) under Sòng Huīzōng. Cáo’s principal contribution is the imperial collation of Táng Shènwēi’s Zhènglèi běncǎo 證類本草 — under Huīzōng’s commission of Zhènghé 6 (1116), Cáo’s collation produced the recension known as the Zhènghé Zhènglèi běncǎo 政和證類本草 (KR3e0028 base text), distinguished from the parallel and slightly earlier 1108 Dàguān Zhènglèi běncǎo 大觀證類本草 (also based on Táng but collated under different editorial leadership at the Dàguān court). Cáo’s preface — preserved at the head of the SKQS print — documents the Imperial Eunuch Yáng Jiǎn 楊戩’s role in the printing arrangements and Cáo’s own collation work. Beyond this work he has no transmitted biographical record.
