Zēng Zhào 曾肇 (1047–1107, zì Zǐkāi 子開, posthumous Wénzhāo 文昭, in Shàoxīng 1131), of Nánfēng 南豐 — younger brother of Zēng Gǒng 曾鞏 曾鞏 (TángSòng bājiā) and Zēng Bù 曾布 (Wáng Ānshí New Policies advocate). Zhìpíng 4 / 1067 jìnshì. Held Zhōngshū shèrén 中書舍人 and Lóngtúgé xuéshì 龍圖閣學士. Caught between the Yuányòu and Shàoshèng factional cycles: as one of the Yuányòu coalition’s voice-of-conscience figures, he memorialized in support of Hán Wéi 韓維 韓維, blocked Wáng Dí 王覿’s outside-posting, and pushed the resumption of the zhuǎnduì (rotational presentation) practice; under Shàoshèng placed on the proscription list, demoted as Púzhōu tuánliàn fùshǐ with Tīngzhōu internment; in Chóngníng (early Huīzōng) restored as Cháosànláng; returned to Rùnzhōu, where he died. Repeatedly remonstrated with his elder brother Bù to recommend shànlèi (good people) — Bù not following. Surviving documents include the Yuánfēng jiǔyùzhì memorial (recorded by Wáng Yīnglín 王應麟 in Yùhǎi) — Zēng Zhào’s authorship of which is not preserved in the present collection. Sòngshǐ 319. The original 40-juǎn Qǔfù jí 曲阜集, plus the Wàijí 10 juǎn, Zòuyì 12 juǎn, Ěryīng jìn gùshì 1 juǎn, Yuányòu Wàizhì jí 12 juǎn, Gēngchén Wàizhì jí 3 juǎn, Nèizhì jí 5 juǎn, Shàngshū jiǎngyì 8 juǎn, and Zēngshì pǔtú 1 juǎn (so listed by Yáng Shí 楊時 in his shéndàobēi) was lost from the mid-Míng on; Yǒnglè 10 / 1412 the descendants printed only the zòuyì (Zēng Qǐ 曾棨’s preface). The present Qǔfù jí 曲阜集 KR4d0064 in 4 juǎn was reconstituted under Kāngxī by his descendant Zēng Yǎn 曾儼 曾儼 from extant memorials, edicts, bēibiǎo, and lost-pieces, with the back juǎn as fùlù (appendix).
