Mid-Táng official and painting critic from Wújùn 吳郡 (modern Sūzhōu). Active in the Tàihé 太和 and Kāichéng 開成 reigns of Wénzōng (827–840), serving as Hànlín xuéshì 翰林學士. Author of KR3h0010 Tángcháo mínghuà lù 唐朝名畫錄 (c. 840–846), the first systematic single-dynasty painting catalogue and the work that introduced the yìpǐn 逸品 (untrammelled grade) into the Chinese ranking-system. Zhāng Yànyuǎn quotes him as a contemporary in KR3h0009 Lìdài mínghuà jì. The Tángshū·Yìwénzhì mistitled his book Tánghuà duàn 唐畫斷, an error corrected by the Sìkù editors. No collected works survive.
