Zhū Duānzhāng 朱端章 (also written 朱瑞章 Zhū Ruìzhāng in the SKQS / hxwd recension orthography), Southern-Sòng official-physician of Chánglè 長樂 (Fújiàn). In the Chúnxī era 淳熙 (1174–1189) served as zhī Jiāngxī Nánkāngjūn 知江西南康軍 (administrator of Nánkāng commandery in Jiāngxī), a position attested in the Sòng shǐ — yìwén zhì and the Qiánlóng Jiāngxī tōngzhì. Renowned for his kuān (lenient) administration and lián (incorrupt) personal conduct; established public guāntián (official-fields) at Báilù dòng 白鹿洞 to subsidise students. A liáng lì “good local-official with the heart for relieving the people” rather than a professional physician proper.
His medical writings, all of compilatory character, are recorded in the Sòng shǐ — yìwén zhì:
- Wèishēng jiābǎo fāng 衛生家寶方 (6 juǎn)
- Wèishēng jiābǎo xiǎoér fāng 衛生家寶小兒方 (1 juǎn)
- Wèishēng jiābǎo tāng fāng 衛生家寶湯方 (2 juǎn)
- Wèishēng jiābǎo chǎnkē bèiyào 衛生家寶產科備要 (KR3ei056, 8 juǎn)
The chǎnkē bèiyào is the only one of his medical works to survive in the Sòng-print transmission, rediscovered in Sòng-edition by the Qīng bibliophile Lù Xīnyuán 陸心源 of Guīān 歸安 (the Wànlíguǎn 穰梨館 collector); Lù re-cut it in 1887 (Guāngxù 13). It is uniquely valuable as the principal surviving witness to the lost Sòng obstetrical compilations Chǎnyù bǎoqìng jí 產育寶慶集 (Lǐ Shīshèng) and Bèichǎn jìyòng fāng 備產濟用方 (Yú Liú).
