Sugimoto Shigetoshi 杉本重利 (Chinese: Shānběn Zhònglì, fl. 1920s–30s), early-Shōwa Japanese pharmacologist. Author of Sai’ō no kenkyū 犀黃之研究 (KR3ec082) — a laboratory-pharmacological monograph on niúhuáng 牛黃 (bezoar — gallstone material from the bovine gallbladder, used in classical Chinese medicine as a stroke / convulsion / fever drug). The text discusses bezoar as a model material for the pharmacological action of bile constituents, in dialogue with the contemporaneous Western and Japanese biochemistry of bile pigments and bile acids (notably the work of Hashimoto Shinji 橋本進次 on bile-derived hematopoietic action and Imai Yū 小今井 on bezoar-mediated immunological response). Japanese pharmacologist; not in CBDB.
