The dominant Yuán bamboo painter; zì Zhòngbīn 仲賓, hào Xīzhāi 息齋, a man of Jìqiū 薊邱 (modern Běijīng region). Lifedates 1245–1320 per CBDB and the Sū Tiānjué Zīxī jí tomb inscription. Career: rose to Jíxián dàxuéshì 集賢大學士 under Rénzōng and to Lìbù shàngshū 吏部尚書 in Huángqìnɡ 1 (1312); posthumous title Wénjiǎn 文簡. Took Wén Tóng 文同 as model after obtaining a Wén Tóng original at Qiántáng at the start of Zhìyuán (c. 1264); travelled to Annam (Jiāozhǐ 交趾) as Yuán envoy and there observed subtropical bamboo at first hand. Author of KR3h0036 Zhúpǔ 竹譜 in 10 juàn (the most systematic Chinese treatise on bamboo painting and bamboo botany combined). Surviving works include the Sìshēng tú 四生圖 and several scrolls of bamboo in the Gùgōng and Princeton collections. Close associate of 趙孟頫 (Zhào Mèngfǔ).
