Lín Shìzhī 林式之 (fl. mid-13th c.), Zǐjìng 子敬. A native of Fúqīng 福清 (Fújiàn 福建), in the same clan-lineage as Lín Xīyì 林希逸 (林希逸), of whom he was a disciple and a younger second-cousin (zàicóng xiōngzǐ 再從兄子, per Lín Tóng’s preface to KR4d0370).

Career. Held a post as Magistrate-Recorder (fǎcáo-staff) of Pǔjūn 莆軍法曹掾 in the same period when Lín Xīyì served at Xìnghuà 興化 / Pǔ. Later transferred to be Vice-Prefect of Sānyáng 三陽通守 (modern Cháozhōu 潮州, Guǎngdōng), where in Xiánchún 4 (1268) he undertook to fund the cutting of his teacher’s xùjí (continuation collection) — the present KR4d0370 Zhúxī Juànzhāi shíyī gǎo xùjí in 30 juàn. Lín Tóng’s preface explicitly records that Shìzhī had “in this office obtained a small income, and saving from his food-and-clothing supply, accumulating bit by bit, sought to fulfil his lifetime’s unfulfilled wish” — that is, to support the printing of his teacher’s writings.

Role. Lín Shìzhī is the editorial compiler of KR4d0370: the categorization into thirteen sections (poetry, miscellaneous prose, early works, , , , sìliù, shěngtí shī, wǎnshī, jìwén, mùzhì, xíngzhuàng, xuéjì) is his. He had earlier also overseen the cutting of the last 10 juàn of Liú Kèzhuāng’s 劉克莊 Hòucūn xiānshēng dàquánjí 後村先生大全集 — his name appearing on the colophon of those juàn as supervising-cutter. Lín Shìzhī was therefore a recognized editorial-and-publishing figure in Fújiàn late-Sòng literary circles.
