Liángxī Zuòguān Lǎorén 梁溪坐觀老人 (literally, “The Old Man Who Sits and Watches at Liang Stream”) is the pseudonym of the unidentified author of Qīngdài Yějì 清代野記 (KR4k0205), an informal miscellany of anecdotes covering the Xiánfēng, Tóngzhì, Guāngxù, and Xuāntǒng reigns of the Qīng dynasty. “Liángxī” 梁溪 is the literary name for Wúxī 無錫 (Jiāngsū province), suggesting the author had a connection to that area, but the real identity behind the pseudonym has not been established in the standard bibliographies of Qīng bǐjì literature.
The work was originally titled Sìcháo Yějì 四朝野記 (Unofficial Records of Four Reigns); the author changed it to Qīngdài Yějì because, as the lìyán explains, coverage of the four reigns was uneven. The pseudonym “Zuòguān Lǎorén” (the Old Man Sitting and Watching) is consistent with the persona of a retired observer recording what he has witnessed and heard over decades of Qīng court and social life. The work records events the author could not previously set down due to political sensitivity, suggesting composition in the late Qīng or early Republican period (ca. 1905–1915).
No other works are attributed to this pseudonym.
