Shěn Zhòngfāng 沈仲方, late-Míng / early-Qīng scholar, associate of Zhā Jìzuǒ 查繼佐 (1601–1677; see 查繼佐) at Hǎiníng 海寧, Zhèjiāng. Identified in the Dōngshān guóyǔ 東山國語 (KR2d0018) as the bǔshù 補述 (supplementary editor / “completer of the narrative”) who took up Zhā’s manuscript notes after the latter’s death and brought them to publication. The catalog meta records his function explicitly as 補述. Shěn’s role appears to have been principally that of editorial recovery: gathering and ordering Zhā’s autograph drafts (which had been hidden together with the Zuìwéi lù, KR2d0017), correcting obvious lacunae, and preparing the text for the late-nineteenth- or early-twentieth-century circulation that culminated in the SBCK Sānbiān (1936) printing. Shěn does not appear in CBDB and is otherwise unrecorded outside the Dōngshān guóyǔ prefatory matter.
