Shěn Défú 沈德符 (1578–1642), zì Jǐngqiàn 景倩 (or Jǐngbó 景伯, or Hǔchén 虎臣), of Xiùshuǐ 秀水 (Jiāxìng) in Zhèjiāng. Son of the late-Wàn-lì Hànlín scholar Shěn Zìbīng 沈自邠 (jìnshì 1574). Jǔrén of Wànlì xīnmǎo / 1591; never proceeded further in the examinations. Spent his adult life in private literary work, in particular his great Wànlì yěhuò biān 萬曆野獲編 (the principal late-Wàn-lì historical miscellany — yěhuò = “wild gleanings” of court affairs not in the official histories), and the Fēifú yǔlüè 飛鳧語略 (“Bird-in-flight Speech Outline”). The Gùqǔ záyán KR4j0088 is the qǔ-criticism component of this output: a one-juǎn treatise on zájù and nánběi qǔ (Southern and Northern qǔ). CBDB 34787 gives 1578–1642.
