Fǎchóng 法崇
Mid-to-late-Táng Buddhist scholar-monk; abbot/resident at the Qiānfúsì 千福寺 in Cháng’ān (commonly cited as Qiānfú Fǎchóng 千福法崇). Lifedates unrecorded; floruit second half of the eighth century, in the immediate disciple-circle of Bùkōng Sānzàng 不空三藏 (Amoghavajra, 705–774). Per the prefatory Qìn zūnshèng tuóluóní jīng shū xù 鋟尊勝陀羅尼經疏敘 to his Fódǐng zūnshèng tuóluóní jīng jiàojì yìjì (KR6j0732, T39 no. 1803): “Qiānfú Fǎchóng zūnzhě had once roamed the Bùkōng Sānzàng’s gates; the great-and-small-vehicle teachings together with the secret canon, none was not thoroughly mastered by him. Thereupon he composed this Shū.”
His principal surviving work is the two-fascicle commentary on the Buddhoṣṇīṣa-vijaya-dhāraṇī sūtra preserved at T39 no. 1803, which integrates Mahāyāna Mādhyamaka–Yogācāra doctrinal interpretation of the dhāraṇī with the apotropaic-ritual teaching of the Esoteric school. Per DILA A002264.
