Táng-period Buddhist monk; lifedates not preserved (DILA A001753). Identified in the Xùzàngjīng only by a single attribution: Ānguósì shāmén Chéngzhào 安國寺沙門澄照 — i.e. monk of Ānguósì 安國寺 in Cháng’ān, the famous Táng dynastic monastery on the Cháng’ān south-western ward. His one surviving work is the Lüè shòu sānguī wǔbājiè bìng púsàjiè 略授三歸五八戒並菩薩戒 (KR6k0250, X1087). Note: distinct from the Sòng-era posthumous title 澄照大師 (“Master of the Clear Light”) conferred on Nánshān Dàoxuān 南山道宣 by emperor Huīzōng 徽宗 in 1101 — that Chéngzhào designates Dàoxuān, while the present entry’s Chéngzhào is a Táng-period monk independently bearing the same religious style.
