Xuáncè 玄策 Early-Táng Chán monk of Dōngyáng 東陽, fellow-student and friend of 玄覺 Yǒngjiā Xuánjué; instigator of Xuánjué’s pilgrimage to 惠能 Huìnéng at Cáoxī, which led to the famous “one-night awakening” (yīsù jué 一宿覺) encounter.
