Early-Qīng court painter and Hanlin official; native of Tàicāng 太倉 (modern Jiāngsū). Zì Màojīng 茂京; hào Lùtái 麓臺. Grandson of the painter Wáng Shímǐn 王時敏 and one of the Sì Wáng 四王 of orthodox Qīng painting (with Wáng Shímǐn, Wáng Jiàn 王鑑, and Wáng Hǔi 王翬). Took the jìnshì in Kāngxī 9 (1670). Served the Kāngxī court as Hanlin Compiler, Hǎnlín shǎo zhānshì, and director of the imperial Pèiwénzhāi shūhuàpǔ 佩文齋書畫譜 (1708) and the Wànshòu shèngdiǎn chūjí 萬壽盛典初集 (KR2m0034). His own painting corpus is preserved across major collections worldwide; his theory of orthodox-school painting, articulated in his Yǔchuāng mànbǐ 雨窗漫筆, codifies the Dǒng Qíchāng-line lineage. Died in 1715, two years before the Wànshòu shèngdiǎn was completed; Wáng Yìqīng saw the work through. CBDB confirms 1642–1715.
