Wáng Shǒurén 王守仁 (1472–1528), Bóān 伯安, hào Yángmíng 陽明 (after Yángmíngdòng 陽明洞, where he meditated), posthumous shì Wénchéng 文成; native of Yúyáo 餘姚 (Shàoxīng, Zhèjiāng). Hóngzhì 12 / jǐwèi (1499) jìnshì; rose to Bīngbù shàngshū and was enfeoffed Xīnjiànbó 新建伯. The principal mid-Míng philosopher and statesman; founder of the Yáojiāng 姚江 / Yángmíngxué 陽明學 school of xīnxué (heart-mind learning) with its central doctrines of zhì liángzhī 致良知 (extending innate-knowing) and zhīxíng héyī 知行合一 (unity of knowing and doing). Famously crushed the Níngwáng (Zhū Chénháo) rebellion in Jiāngxī (1519) within 35 days. Late life suppressed the Sīēn / Tiánzhōu rising in Guǎngxī. Posthumously canonized in the Confucian temple in Wànlì 12 (1584). Míngshǐ j. 195. His collected works are gathered in the Wáng Wénchéng quánshū in 38 juǎn (KR4e0157) — compiled chronologically by his disciple Qián Déhóng (錢德洪) and edited as Wénlù by Xiè Tíngjié (謝廷傑).
