Zhāng Mào 章懋 (1436–1521), zì Démào 德懋, hào Ànránzǐ 闇然子 / Fēngshān 楓山, posthumously Wényì 文懿, was a Mid-Míng Lǐxué official of Lánxī 蘭谿 (Jīnhuá, Zhèjiāng). Huìshì first place in Chénghuà bǐngxū (1466); appointed Hànlín shùjíshì and Biānxiū. Famously, when ordered to compose celebratory poetry for the Áoshān dēng (lantern festival), he refused; was further demoted on a remonstrance memorial to Wǔlíng Magistrate. Under Hóngzhì and Zhèngdé, rose successively to Nánjīng Lǐbù shàngshū and retired. Cuī Xiàn 崔銑’s Míng chén shí jié praises him as “of pure character without flaw” — distinct from his contemporaries Chén Xiànzhāng (Báishā — too Buddhist), Luó Lún 羅倫 (One-Peak — direct but reckless), and Zhuāng Chāng 莊昹 (Dìngshān — fame-loving without substance). Major work: the Fēngshān yǔlù 楓山語錄 (KR3a0082, his yǔlù notebook). Biography: Míng shǐ j. 179. CBDB id 34532, dates 1436–1521.
