Tóng Pǐn 童品 was a mid-Míng Chūnqiū scholar, native of Lánxī 蘭溪 (now in Zhèjiāng). His biographical record is sparse — the Sìkù tíyào of his sole surviving work KR1e0075 Chūnqiū jīngzhuàn biànyí 春秋經傳辨疑 explicitly notes “事蹟無考” (“his career-record cannot be investigated”). He was known to have served as a rúxué shēng (Confucian school student); the work’s self-preface is dated Chénghuà wùxū (1478), 11th month, the winter solstice (the year he held private tuition in the household of one Lù Shēngzhèn 陸生震 zì Rǔhēng 汝亨); the postscript-tag (跋) is dated Hóngzhì rénxū (1502), 2nd month — twenty-five years later. The tíyào describes him as “葢老儒也” (“evidently an aged Confucian”). CBDB has his birth year as 1439 (id 201270); on this dating he was 39 at the work’s first composition and 63 at its publication. No dynasty-history biography survives. Apart from this Chūnqiū commentary, no other works are known.
