筏提摩多 Fátímóduō (Sanskritisation conjecturally Vrddhimati “Increased-Mind”; the name is poorly attested and the form may be corrupt) is the name given in the Taishō colophon as the translator of the Shì Móhēyǎn lùn 釋摩訶衍論 (KR6o0084) under Yáo Qín 姚秦 (Later Qín, 384–417) patronage. The figure is almost certainly fictitious: he is unattested in any independent biographical source — Chū sānzàng jì jí 出三藏記集 (T2145), Gāosēng zhuàn 高僧傳 (T2059), Lìdài sānbǎo jì 歷代三寶記 (T2034) — none of the standard early-medieval Chinese biographical compendia mention him, despite their detailed coverage of Yáo-Qín-period translators (Kumārajīva and his immediate circle in particular). The attribution is part of the apparatus of the Korean apocryphon Shì Móhēyǎn lùn, manufacturing a translator-figure to support the work’s claim of Yáo-Qín-period Indian authorship. No biographical reconstruction is possible because no historical figure underlies the name.
