Mid-seventeenth-century LínjìYángqí Chán master, 34th-generation Línjì in the Mìyún → Pòshān Hǎimíng → Zhàngxuě Tōngzuì → Lǎnshí Sichuan Chán line. Principal dharma-heir of Zhàngxuě Tōngzuì 丈雪通醉 (1610–1695, cf. KR6q0415); successor to Zhàngxuě at Hànzhōng Jìngmíngsì 漢中靜明寺 during his master’s Tiāntóng visit. Fǎhuì 法諱 Líng 聆, hào Lǎnshí 懶石 (“Lazy-Stone”). Lay surname Zhāng 張, native of ShǔChóngqìng Zhōngzhōu 蜀重慶忠州 (modern Zhōngxiàn, Sichuan).
Training. Mother-dream omen: swallowing the moon at conception. Age 12 dream-summoned to tonsure; age 20 full ordination. First Chán-training under Xiàngyá héshàng 象崖和尚 on the wànfǎ guīyī huàtóu. Birthdate and death-date not preserved in the yǔlù; active through 1659 (cutting-date of KR6q0432); probably died c. 1670s or later.
Work: KR6q0432 《懶石聆禪師語錄》 (4 juan, Jiāxīng Canon J28 B218, compiled by dharma-heirs 海瑞 Hǎiruì and 真蘊 Zhēnyùn; two 1659 prefaces by Liú Dàokāi 劉道開 and Shībó 施博).
Historical significance. Lǎnshí’s Shāngshānsì abbacy extends the Pòshān / Zhàngxuě sub-line’s northern-and-northwest mission program (cf. KR6q0422 Hénán / Shǎnxī / Chángān) southward into Yúnnán — the southwestern-frontier counterpart to the contemporary mission-sweeps.
