Niè Yúntái 聶雲臺 (original given name 其杰 Qíjié; zì Yúntái 雲臺, by which he is universally known; 1880–1953) was a leading Shanghai industrialist of the Republican period, founder of the China Cotton Mill Owners Association and first president of the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce (上海總商會, 1920–1922). Native of Héngshān 衡山 (Húnán), grandson on his mother’s side of the Húnán statesman Zēng Guófān 曾國藩 and son of the Qīng diplomat 聶緝槼 Niè Jíguī. A devout lay Buddhist and amateur medical scholar, after retirement from industry in the 1930s Niè devoted himself to writing on Buddhist-influenced public health, eugenics, and Chinese-medicine reform, including the Bǎo fù fǎ 保富法 (Method of Preserving Wealth) and the Shānghán jiě dú liáo fǎ 傷寒解毒療法 (KR3ef068). He died in Shanghai in 1953.
