Fàn Chúnrén 范純仁 (1027–1101), zì Yáofū 堯夫, posthumous Zhōngxuān 忠宣, of Sūzhōu Wúxiàn 蘇州吳縣 — second son of Fàn Zhòngyān 范仲淹 范仲淹 (the Wénzhèng premier of Qìnglì). Huángyòu 1 / 1049 jìnshì. Held Diànzhōng shìyùshǐ 殿中侍御史 from Zhìpíng 1 / 1064; in Yuányòu (1086) was Tóngzhī shūmìyuànshì 同知樞密院事; in Yuányòu 8 / 1093 Zài (premier) — Shàngshū yòu púyè 尚書右僕射. Studied with the same teachers as Fàn Zǔyǔ 范祖禹: Sūn Fù 孫復 of Tàishān, Shí Jiè 石介 of Cúlái, Lǐ Gòu 李覯 of Xūjiāng. Famously memorialized the zéjǐzérén 責己責人 (judging-self / judging-others) and zhùlián chéngdé 助廉成德 (helping-honesty, completing-virtue) maxims. In the Yuányòu / Shàoshèng shift, demoted under Zhāng Dūn’s reaction; eventually banished to Yǒngzhōu; recalled in early Huīzōng as Guānwéndiàn dàxuéshì; died on the way back. Famously fúmǔ jiāo (forgave injuries inflicted) — the boating incident on the way to Yǒngzhōu (in storm-and-rain almost wrecked, attributed by household to Zhāng Dūn — and Fàn replying “this too?”) is one of his most celebrated character-anecdotes. Posthumously enfeoffed Kāifǔ yítóng sānsī. Sòngshǐ 314.
