Late Southern-Sòng Daoist patriarch, the thirty-eighth-generation master (sānshíbā dài zōngshī 三十八代宗師) of the Shàngqīng 上清 / Máoshān 茅山 lineage, died 1281. CBDB (c_personid 111732) records him active 1260–1281. His biography in DZ 304 Máoshān zhì 茅山志 (completed 1328) records that he wrote a commentary to the Dàdòng yùjīng 大洞玉經 (the title under which the scripture is sometimes received, alongside the Dàdòng zhēnjīng of DZ 6), and it was under his editorial authority that the Shàngqīng dàdòng zhēnjīng 上清大洞真經 (DZ 6) was collated and re-engraved in Sòng for general circulation — the imprint colophon being supplied by his disciple Chéng Gōngduān in 1272, the year of the edition’s printing. The received text carries the line-heading attribution 茅山上清三十八代宗師蔣宗瑛校勘. A substantial stratum of visualisation-prescriptions internal to the Dàdòng zhēnjīng (notably the rubrics preceding the “Dàdòng yùjīng” sub-stanzas and the instructions accompanying the closing 符 of each section) is, on Isabelle Robinet’s stratigraphic analysis, attributable to Jiǎng’s editorial redaction. He is one of the key figures in the transmission of the Shàngqīng textual corpus from the Six Dynasties through the Sòng into the Míng Daozang.
