Xuē Yòngruò 薛用弱 (zì Zhòngshèng 仲勝, fl. early 9th c.), mid-Táng scholar-official and author of the Jíyì jì 集異記 KR3l0104. The opening of his book gives his jùnwàng (ancestral commanderie) as Hédōng 河東 (modern southern Shānxī); his place of birth is unknown, and the Sìkù tiyao explicitly notes that Táng shìzú customarily used jùnwàng designations rather than birth-places, so the Hédōng tag indicates only family origin. The Xīn Táng shū Yìwén zhì records that he served as Prefect of Guāngzhōu 光州 (in modern southern Hénán) during the Chángqìng 長慶 reign-period (821–824) of Táng Mùzōng 穆宗; no other office or biographical detail is recorded. The dates of his birth and death are unknown; his floruit is fixed only by the Guāngzhōu prefecture appointment. CBDB id 95051 (his name appears in BIOG_MAIN without dates). His single surviving work, the Jíyì jì, is one of the principal sources for TángXuánzōng anecdotal lore: it preserves the canonical versions of Wáng Wéi 王維’s Yùlún páo 鬱輪袍, the Wáng Zhīhuàn 王之渙 / Wáng Chānglíng 王昌齡 / Gāo Shì 高適 Qítíng huàbì 旗亭畫壁 wineshop-wager, Dí Rénjié 狄仁傑’s refusal of the Jícuì 集翠 kingfisher-feather robe, and the weiqi-master Wáng Jīxīn 王積薪’s overhearing the fùgū 婦姑 (mother- and daughter-in-law) blind-weiqi game in the Mínshān 岷山 cottage.
