Xuē Kǎi 薛鎧 ( Liángwǔ 良武), Míng-period imperial physician (Tàiyīyuàn yīshì 太醫院醫士) of Wúxiàn 吳縣 (Sūzhōu, Jiāngsū). Active in the HóngzhìZhèngdé period. Specialist in paediatrics; bearer of the Xuē-family medical practice continued by his son Xuē Jǐ 薛己 (薛己, 1487–1559). The paediatric work Bǎoyīng cuōyào 保嬰撮要 (KR3ej015, 20 juǎn, 1556) is conventionally attributed in the bibliographic literature primarily to Xuē Kǎi as initial compiler, with Xuē Jǐ as the principal editor-completer who brought it into final form and publication. The relation of attribution is similar to that of the Yǎngshēng sìyào 養生四要 of the Wàn family between Wàn Quán’s grandfather and Wàn Quán himself. Lifedates are not securely recorded.
