Eastern-Hàn classicist of the guǔwén school, fl. under Guāngwǔ 25–57 and into the early Yǒngpíng reign. Native of Dōnghǎi 東海. Zì Jìngzhòng 敬仲. Studied the Máo Shī with Xiè Mànqīng 謝曼卿; in the Jiànwǔ era was summoned to court as Erudite (Bóshì). His Máo Shī xù 毛詩序 (the Greater and Lesser Prefaces of the Máo Shī, in his received version) is the foundational interpretive frame for the Máo tradition; the attribution is standard in the Hòu Hàn shū biography but contested in modern scholarship. He also wrote a Máo Shī Zá yì 毛詩雜義. His name is associated with several Hàn institutional manuals—Hàn yí zhù 漢儀注, Hàn lǐ yí 漢禮儀, and the Hàn guān jiù yí 漢官舊儀 (KR2m0020)—of which only the last survives in fragmentary reconstructed form. The conventional fl. date is mid-1st century CE; precise life-dates are not transmitted.
