Yuán Shū 袁淑 (408–453 CE; Yángyuán 陽源) was a Liú Sòng 劉宋 dynasty literary official, satirist, and martyr. Native of Chéngjùn 陳郡 Yángxià 陽夏 (modern Tàikāng 太康, Hénan). Nephew of Yuán Zhān 袁湛 and a member of the prominent Chéngjùn Yuán 陳郡袁 clan. He served as a literary official in the Crown Prince’s retinue. When the Crown Prince Liú Shào 劉劭 murdered his own father Emperor Wén 文帝 (r. 424–453) and seized the throne, Yuán Shū was ordered to compose a congratulatory text but refused, declaring his loyalty to the legitimate line; he was executed in 453. His biography is in Sòngshū 宋書 59 and Nán shǐ 南史 22. Known for his wit and satire, especially the Fěi xié jí 誹諧集. His reconstructed collected works appear as KR4b0045.
