Modern Japanese Buddhist studies scholar (西本 照真), specialist in Sānjiējiào 三階教 (Three Stages Teaching). Author of the major monograph Sangaikyō no kenkyū 三階教の研究 (Tokyo: Shunjūsha, 1998) — the principal post-Yabuki study, revising and extending Yabuki Keiki 矢吹慶輝’s 1927 foundational work. Edited the Fóxìng guān xiūshàn fǎ 佛性觀修善法 KR6v0092 and the survey article Sānjiējiào wénxiàn zōngshù 三階教文獻綜述 KR6v0103 for Zàngwài fójiào wénxiàn vol. 9, drawing on unpublished Dūnhuáng witnesses (Běidūn 07879 and 14802) that allow nearly complete reconstruction of this important Sānjiē text.
