Yuán shǐ j. 168 records that Xǔ was a Han-Chinese physician who served Khubilai Khan and his consort Chabi 察必 as personal physician; he is credited with treating Empress Chabi’s serious illness, after which Khubilai conferred on him the directorship of the imperial medical office. Held the office of Tàiyī tídiǎn 太醫提點 (Director of the Imperial Medical Office) and was honoured with the senior rank Rónglù dàifū 榮祿大夫.
Co-compiler of the Yùyàoyuàn fāng 御藥院方 (KR3ed025) — the 1267 imperial-pharmacy formulary of the early Yuán, a textual consolidation of Sòng Júfāng, Jurchen Jin Yùyàoyuàn (1242 rényín edition), and newly-collected Mongol-Chinese recipes. He is not in CBDB. The principal biographical source is Yuán shǐ j. 168, where he is described as a confidant of Khubilai and as treating Mongol royal-family members successfully across his career.
