Xǔ Shèn 許慎 (c. 58 – c. 147), Shū zhòng 叔重, was the great Eastern-Hàn lexicographer, author of the Shuō wén jiě zì 說文解字 — the foundational Chinese etymological dictionary (completed 100 CE, presented to the throne in 121). Also traditionally credited with a commentary on the Huái nán zǐ 淮南子 (KR5f0018), though this attribution is insecure and the surviving “Xǔ commentary” may represent a composite Hàn commentarial tradition.
