Xiè Língyùn 謝靈運
Liú-Sòng poet (385–433), foundational figure of the Chinese “mountain-and-water” (shān shuǐ 山水) poetic tradition. Held a number of official posts but was perennially dissatisfied; eventually exiled and executed. Devout Buddhist who collaborated with the Dào’ān-Huìyuǎn-circle monks on translation work; his poetry consciously fuses Buddhist meditational themes with the contemplation of natural landscape.
