The DILA Buddhist Person Authority records Chāohǎi 超海 (zì Sìháng 四航; native of Hǎiyán 海鹽 in Zhèjiāng, lay surname Lù 陸) as a Qīng monk born 3 October 1662 (Kāngxī 1, 8th month, 22nd day) and died 9 May 1728 (Yōngzhèng 6, 4th month, 1st day) at age 67, abbot of Chóngfúsì 崇福寺. He left a one-juan yǔlù (recorded sayings).

The Chāohǎi 超海 named as principal editor of the Chóngdìng jiàoshèng fǎshù (KR6s0009, L1666) under the Yōngzhèng 雍正 emperor’s commission, with the project running through Yōngzhèng 12–13 (1734–1735), is most probably a different person — the imperial preface (dated 7th month full-moon, Yōngzhèng 13 = August 1735) describes the editing as still actively in progress in 1734, by which date the Hǎiyán Chóngfúsì abbot above had already been dead seven years. The 1730s imperial-court editor is plausibly a Beijing-based monastic scholar of the same name otherwise unrecorded in DILA. The catalog meta and the Authority XML have apparently confused the two figures. The matter remains to be clarified by direct consultation of Lóngzàng (Qiánlóng canon) editorial archives.
