Dàoxuán 道璿 (Dōsen, 702–760)

Tang Chinese monk who travelled to Japan in Tenpyō 8 (736) at the invitation of the Japanese court, bringing with him an early collection of Huáyán-school commentaries and treatises (including writings of 法藏 Fǎzàng). Resident at Daian-ji 大安寺 in Nara, where he was a key transmitter of Huáyán and Northern-school Chán (北宗禪) teachings. Distinct from the Tang Vinaya master Dàoxuán 道宣 (596–667).
