Biān Gòng 邊貢 (1476–1532), Tíngshí 廷寔, hào Huáquán 華泉, of Lìchéng 歷城 (Jǐnán, Shāndōng). Hóngzhì 9 / bǐngchén (1496) jìnshì; rose to Nánjīng Hùbù shàngshū. Míngshǐ Wényuàn zhuàn. One of the QiánQīzǐ (Former Seven Masters) of mid-Míng — with Lǐ Mèngyáng (李夢陽), Hé Jǐngmíng (何景明), Xú Zhēnqīng (徐禎卿) as the four chiefs in the Hóngzhì literary world. Lǔ Zhōnglì 魯仲立’s Hǎiyuè língxiù jí ranks him píngdàn hécuì: “though not reaching Hé and Lǐ, calm-and-pure”; Hú Yīnglín’s Shī sǒu even ranks him above the other two on yáoyì (transcendent ease); Chén Zǐlóng’s Míng shī xuǎn judges his rank below Xú Zhēnqīng (Chānggǔ) but above Xuē Huì (Jūncǎi).
