Xíng Tóng 邢侗 (1551–1612), zì Zǐyuàn 子愿, hào Láiqínshēng 來禽生 (after his Láiqín Hall zhāi) and Zhīwú 知吾; native of Línyì 臨邑 (Shāndōng). Wànlì 2 / jiǎxū (1574) jìnshì; served as Nángōngzhīxiàn and rose to Shǎnxī xíng tàipúsìqīng; retired early to his estate at Línyì where he devoted himself to calligraphy and to the editing of fǎtiè model-book compendia (notably the Láiqínguǎn fǎtiè 來禽館法帖). One of the Wànlì sì jiā 萬曆四家 of late-Míng calligraphy — paired with Dǒng Qíchāng 董其昌, Mǐ Wànzhōng 米萬鍾, and Zhāng Ruìtú 張瑞圖 — celebrated especially for his xíngcǎo in the Wáng Xīzhī manner. As a poet he was associated with the late Wànlì fùgǔ movement. His Diào Sòngsǒu shī xù 弔宋叟詩序 is the principal contemporary documentary witness to the death and self-understanding of the bùyī poet 宋登春 (c. 1515 – c. 1586), see KR4e0238. Míngshǐ lacks a dedicated biography; the standard source is the Línyì xiànzhì and the prefatory matter of his own Láiqínguǎn jí 來禽館集.
