Shào Jìnhán 邵晉涵

Èryún 二雲; hào Nánjiāng 南江; posthumous title Wénxiàn 文獻 (a rare distinction for a non-chief-minister). Native of Yúyáo 餘姚 (Zhèjiāng), of the Yúyáo Shào lineage that also produced the great early-Qing scholar Shào Tíngcǎi 邵廷采. Jìnshì of Qiánlóng 36 (1771). CBDB id 65847; lifedates 1742–1796.

A leading mid-Qiánlóng kǎozhèng scholar and one of the principal Sìkù editors. Held Hànlín shìjiǎng 翰林侍講, Hànlín shìdú 翰林侍讀, and other senior Hànlín posts. As a Sìkù editorial-team member, his most consequential project was the reconstitution of the Jiù Wǔdài shǐ (KR2a0029) — extracted from citations in the Yǒnglè dàdiǎn 永樂大典 and supplemented from Sòng lèishū and bǐjì — in Qiánlóng 38–39 (1773–1774). The recovery of about 80–90% of the original 150-juǎn text from rhyme-character extracts is one of the most celebrated and successful textual reconstitution projects in Chinese scholarship.

His other major scholarly works: the Ěryǎ zhèngyì 爾雅正義 (20 juǎn, 1788) — a major Qing critical commentary on the Ěryǎ, the foundational Confucian xiǎoxué lexicon; the Nánjiāng cǎo táng wén jí 南江草堂文集 (his collected prose); the Nánjiāng zhái jí 南江札記 (a kǎozhèng-style miscellany).

His biography is in Qīng shǐ gǎo 481 (KR2a0039) under the Rúlín category.
