Mid-Yuán 元 Chán abbot and principal imperial-Buddhist literary figure under Wénzōng and Shùndì. Religious name Dàxīn 大訢; zì Xiàoyǐn 笑隱 (“Smiling Recluse”). Lay-surname Chén 陳氏. Native of Nánchāng 南昌 (Jiāngxī). CBDB 28415 records 1284–1344.
Religious career.
- Resident at Fèngshān 鳳山 in Hángzhōu
- Transferred to abbatical position at Zhōngtiānzhú 中天竺 monastery (one of the major Hángzhōu Buddhist establishments)
- On Wénzōng’s accession (1328), Wénzōng converted his pre-imperial princely residence at Jiànkāng (Nánjīng) into the Jíqìngsì 集慶寺 and specially raised Dàxīn to its abbatical position
- Conferred imperial honour Tàizhōng dàfū 太中大夫

Documentary contribution. The Wáng Kěyì shàngshū lìrèn jì preserves verifiable cross-check material for the Yuánshǐ Wénzōng běnjì; specifically the Zhì-zhì-era exile of Wénzōng to Hǎinán (the jì dates to Zhìzhì 2 = 1322, the běnjì dates to Zhìzhì 1 = 1321; the Sìkù editors suggest yī/èr (one/two) miswriting).
