Shī Zōnglè 釋宗泐 (1318–1391), Jìtán 季潭, hào Quánshì 全室, native of Línān 臨安 (Hángzhōu). Língjì school (臨濟宗) Buddhist monk; pupil of Yuánxī 元熈 / Guǎngzhì Quánwù chánshī Dàxīn 大訢 (1284–1344), the Lóngxiángsì 龍翔寺 abbot at Nánjīng — making Zōnglè a Línjì 21st-generation monk in the Wànfēng 萬峰 line. In early Hóngwǔ years recommended as a gāoxíng shāmén 高行沙門 and ordered to the Tiānjièsì 天界寺 at Nánjīng; ordered (1378) to the Western Regions (Central Asia / India) to seek surviving sūtras; returned 1382 and appointed zuǒ shànshì 左善世 (chief Buddhist officer). Hóngwǔ Tàizǔ wished to appoint him to secular office; he firmly declined; Tàizǔ wrote a Miǎnguān shuō 免官說 for him. Implicated in the Hú Wéiyōng 胡惟庸 case (1380) but specifically pardoned by Tàizǔ. Authored: (1) KR4e0072 Quánshì wàijí 全室外集 (the surviving literary collection); (2) lost Xīyóu jí 西游集 (record of the Western Regions mission, refuted by Xú Zhēnqīng 徐禎卿 as fictitious but confirmed by the Sìkù editors as actually existing); (3) joint zhùjiě 註解 of three major sūtras with Rúqǐ 如玘 (T39 Léngjiā jīng zhùjiě; T33 Bōrě bōluómìduō xīn jīng zhùjiě; T33 Jīngāng bōrě jīng zhùjiě) — all preserved in the Dàzhèngzàng (Taishō Canon).
