Shì Dàoqián 釋道潛 (fl. Yuánfēng–Yuánfú, c. 1043–c. 1106; later renamed Tánqián 曇潛 by zhìyǒu Sū Shì 蘇軾 蘇軾), zì Cānliáozǐ 參寥子, posthumously Miàozǒng dàshī 妙總大師. Of Yúqián 於潛 (Hángzhōu prefecture) — yīn his xiāng (district) for the name. Chán-Buddhist monk and the most famous shīsēng (poet-monk) of the Sūmén circle. Lifelong zhìyǒu of Sū Shì from the Xīníng-period Hángzhōu phase onward; followed Sū to Hángzhōu (1071), to Mìzhōu (1075), to Xúzhōu (1078) — accompanying him through every major SūShì posting except the Hǎinán exile. After Sū Shì’s Wūtái shī àn (1079) and Huángzhōu exile, Dàoqián remained associated; revisited Sū at Hángzhōu during the second magistracy (1090–1091); in 1097 with Sū’s Hǎinán exile he was forcibly huìfú (returned to lay status) on charges of complicity. Cānliáozǐ shījí 參寥子詩集 KR4d0093 in 12 juǎn. Famed for Yán Língtǎn and Cūyī chīyán poems; Sū Shì’s prefaces to him (e.g. Sòng Cānliáo shīxù) are central Sòng shīxù documents. Lù Yóu 陸游’s Lǎoxuéān bǐjì ranks him dāngshí shīsēng dìyī (the foremost shīsēng of the day).
