Northern-Sòng Yúnmén Chán master, original surname Lǐ 李, zì Yǐnzhī 隱之, conventionally known as Xuědòu Zhòngxiǎn 雪竇重顯 from his late-life seat at Xuědòu sì 雪竇寺 on Mount Xuědòu in Míngzhōu 明州 (modern Fènghuà 奉化, Zhèjiāng); posthumous Míngjué dàshī 明覺大師. Of Suìzhōu 遂州 origin (Sìchuān). Tonsured young under monk Rénráo 仁鐃 of Pǔān yuàn; trained at Língyǐn sì in Hángzhōu and at Cuìfēng under the Yúnmén line. Settled at Xuědòu sì in Tiānshèng 8 / 1030 and led the monastery for 22 years. Died Huángyòu 4 / 1052 age 73. The principal Sòng Chán literary master: composed the Sòng gǔ bǎi zé 頌古百則 (Hundred Gāthā-Eulogies on Old Cases), the foundational verse-armature of Yuánwù Kèqín’s Bìyán lù KR6q0007 and the founding work of the kōanshū genre. Surviving collection: Zǔyīng jí KR4d0032 (2 juǎn, 220 poems, edited by his pupil Wénzhèng in 1032), and the SBCK Xuědòu sì jí KR4d0033.
