Chén Qǐyuán 陳啟源
Zì Chángfā 長發. Native of Wújiāng 吳江 (modern Jiāngsū). CBDB index year 1626; death year 1689. Senior fellow-townsman and lifelong scholarly collaborator of Zhū Hèlíng 朱鶴齡 (朱鶴齡).
Author of:
- Máo Shī jīgǔ biān 毛詩稽古編 in 30 juǎn (KR1c0049) — completed Kāngxī 26, dīngmǎo (1687) over fourteen years and three drafts, with a preface by his pupil Zhào Jiājī 趙嘉稷 dated Kāngxī 40, xīnsì (1701). The work is the principal early-Qīng systematic Hànxué (Hàn-school) reading of the Shī jīng: xùngǔ per Ěryǎ, piānyì per xiǎo xù, quānjīngzhǐ per Máo zhuàn with Zhèng jiān as auxiliary, míngwù per Lù Jī’s Cǎo mù chóng yú shū. The work systematically attacks the Sòng-school readings, principally targeting Liú Jǐn’s Shī zhuàn tōngshì (KR1c0028) and Fǔ Guǎng’s Shī tóngzǐ wèn (KR1c0021).
His name is sometimes recorded as Chén Qǐyuán with the yuán character 源, sometimes 嫄 or other variants in older catalogs; the standard form is 啟源 / 啟源.
