Career.
- Imperial-attendant (shìcóng 侍從) under Khubilai 元世祖. Accompanied the imperial procession north in Gēngchén (Zhìyuán 17 = 1280) — recorded in his Gēngchén zài suí jià běi xíng poems.
- Documented residence at Hélín 和林 (Karakorum) in Mongolia — established by the letter-poem to Liú Jièchén.
- Subordinate (liáoshǔ 僚屬) of Jìnwáng Gāmǎlā 晉王噶瑪喇 (the Yuán imperial prince Kammala, eldest son of Yùzōng) under Chéngzōng. Network. Exchange-poetry with Lú Zhì 盧摰 (1242–1314), Yáo Suì 姚燧 (1238–1313), Zhào Mèngfǔ 趙孟頫 (1254–1322), Chéng Jùfū 程鉅夫 (1249–1318), and Liú Mèngyán 留夢炎 — but these figures’ own collections rarely reciprocate Chén, accounting for his historiographical obscurity.
Poetic style. YuánZhěnBáiJūyì origin; píngzhèng tōngdá (level-correct, conveyed-clearly). The Sìkù editors evaluate it as “an elegant-sound” though without deep originality.
