Wéi Shù 韋述 (d. 757; CBDB id 32085), native of Jīngzhào 京兆 Dùlíng 杜陵, was one of the principal Táng zhèngshǐ compilers of the Kāiyuán and Tiānbǎo periods. He took jìnshì, served in the Jíxián diàn shūyuàn 集賢殿書院, and rose to Zhe-zuò láng 著作郎 and Tàizǐ shǎoshī 太子少師. He was the principal compiler of the Tángshū 唐書 (the so-called jiù Tángshū of his redaction, in 113 juan, lost after the Sòng), the first comprehensive history of the Táng written within the dynasty itself; the surviving Jiù Tángshū of Liú Xù 劉昫 (KR2a0023) draws extensively on his work. He was also one of the seven named compilers of the Chūxué jì 初學記 (KR3k0006) under Xú Jiān’s overall direction. During the Ān Lùshān 安祿山 rebellion he was forced to serve in the rebel administration and was executed by the Táng court on its return; the standard biographical sources are Jiù Táng shū 102 and Xīn Táng shū 132.
