Late-Míng calligrapher and connoisseur, son of the dominant mid-Míng painting collector 項元汴 (Xiàng Yuánbiàn, 1525–1590, hào Mòlín 墨林). Active in the late 16th century. His given name underwent successive changes — first Dézhī 德枝, then renamed Chún 純 by jùndàfū Xúgōng, finally Mù 穆; zì Déchún 德純; hào Zhēnyuán 貞元 / Wúxiézǐ 無邪子. Of Xiùshuǐ 秀水 in Jiāxīng 嘉興 (modern Zhèjiāng). Inherited his father’s connoisseurship — the Mòlín seal-impressions on calligraphic and pictorial originals remain the principal modern criterion for distinguishing authentic YuánMíng works. Author of KR3h0050 Shūfǎ yǎyán 書法雅言 in 17 piān, the systematic statement of the family connoisseur’s calligraphic doctrine — pro-Jìn, anti-Sòng “edges and angles,” anti-Yuán “cold-and-skimpy” — and an important late-Míng theoretical source for the Kāngxī Pèiwénzhāi shūhuà pǔ KR3h0061. Biographical short note by Wáng Zhìdēng 王穉登.
