Mid-late-Míng scholar from Xiùshuǐ 秀水 (modern Jiāxìng 嘉興 in Zhèjiāng), courtesy name Zǐcháng 子長. CBDB id 30327 attests his name and dynasty without firm lifedates; he flourished in the Jiājìng and Lóngqìng periods (c. 1530s–1580s). He was the elder brother of the renowned late-Míng calligrapher, painter, and book/painting collector Xiàng Yuánbiàn 項元汴 (Xiàng Mòlín 項墨林, 1525–1590); the Xiàng family’s library at Xiùshuǐ was one of the major Jiāngnán late-Míng book repositories. He is principally known for the Jīnxiàn bèiyí 今獻備遺 (KR2g0039), a 42-juàn / 204-man collective biography of Míng officials from Hóngwǔ through Jiājìng, refined from Yuán Biǎo’s 袁袠 earlier Xiànzhāng wàishǐ 獻徵外史 — among the more carefully edited of the mid-Míng míngchén anthologies.
