Raihō 頼寶 / 賴寶 (1279–1330) — Late-Kamakura Japanese Shingon 真言 scholar-monk of Mount Kōya 高野山 and the principal late-Kamakura systematiser of the Shingi-Shingon doctrinal-encyclopaedic tradition. He represents the third generation of Shingi scholarship after 覺鑁 (Kakuban, 1095–1144) and the early-Kamakura post-Kakuban scholastic generation.
His principal surviving canonical works are three substantial Shingon doctrinal compilations preserved in the Taishō:
- Shì móhēyǎn lùn kānzhù 釋摩訶衍論勘注 (KR6o0097, T69n2290) — a twenty-four-fascicle critical-annotation compendium on Nāgārjuna’s Shì móhēyǎn lùn KR6o0084: the largest single commentary on this Awakening of Faith-related text and the standard Shingi reference for its interpretation.
- Zhūfǎ fēnbié chāo 諸法分別抄 (T2448) — comprehensive Shingon doctrinal-analytical compendium.
- Zhēnyán míngmù 真言名目 (T2449) — Shingon technical-terminology lexicon.
His Shì móhēyǎn lùn kānzhù at 24 fascicles is the most extensive medieval Japanese engagement with the Shakuron and the principal documentary witness to the late-Kamakura Shingi-Shingon scholastic synthesis on Nāgārjuna’s text.
