Yán Zhēnqīng 顏真卿 (709–784), zì Qīngchén 清臣, posthumous title Wénzhōng 文忠 — high-Tang loyal-minister, calligrapher, and master of the kǎishū and xíngshū canonical scripts. Jìnshì 734, served the An-Shǐ-rebellion period as a Píngyuán tàishǒu who held out against the rebels; later as Tàizǐ tàishī and ennobled as Lǔ jùn kāiguó gōng 魯郡開國公 (Duke of Lǔ); died a martyr’s death at the hands of the rebel general Lǐ Xīliè 李希烈 in 784. As calligrapher, his Yán shì 顏氏 stylistic legacy is one of the foundational corpora of Chinese calligraphy. He is the celebrated author of the Qiáo xiān guàn bēi jì 橋仙觀碑記 — the foundational stele-text for the Wáng Guō èr zhēnjūn 王郭二真君 cult of Huágàishān (cf. KR5i0102) — composed during his term as Inspector of Línchuān (撫州), c. 770s. CBDB ID 95025.
