Late-Míng (Lóngqìng / Wànlì era) classicist, prose stylist, and provincial official, native of Huátíng 華亭 (Sōngjiāng prefecture, modern Shànghǎi). Zì Mǐnqīng 敏卿; hào Yuánchéng 元成. Jìnshì of Lóngqìng 5 / xīnwèi 辛未 (1571). His career rose through provincial administration to the senior post of Húguǎng bùzhèngsī cānzhèng 湖廣布政司參政 (Provincial Administration Commissioner of Húguǎng). Biography appears as an appendix to the biography of his father Féng Ēn 馮恩 in the Míng shǐ. CBDB (id 30243) records the jìnshì year 1571 but no firm birth or death dates; floruit is securely the 1570s–1610s. Míngrén zhuànjì zīliào suǒyǐn p. 209.5522 is the standard modern reference.
Féng was a prolific late-Míng polymath, with substantial writings in jīng-, shǐ-, and zǐ-traditions; the SKQS preserves his Zuǒshì shì 左氏釋 (KR1e0086) — originally one component of his composite YuánMǐn Tiānchí jí 元敏天池集, recovered as an independent classical work by the Sìkù editors. He also produced Zuǒshì tǎo 左氏討 and Zuǒshì lùn 左氏論, both of which the SKQS editors note in their cún mù 存目 catalogue. The Sìkù editors evaluate Féng’s Zuǒshì shì as “second only to Zhào Fǎng’s Bǔ zhù” (Zhào Fǎng KR1e0070, the late-Yuán Zuǒzhuàn commentator) — a comparatively warm Míng-period verdict.
In medicine, Féng is the author of KR3eq020 Shàngchí záshuō 上池雜說 (catalogued under his hào 馮元成), a one-juǎn late-Míng záshuō of doctrinal essays and clinical case-records that gives one of the earliest sustained late-Míng critiques of 朱震亨 Zhū Dānxī’s “陽常有餘陰常不足” doctrine — anticipating by approximately a generation the warming-tonifying school of 張介賓 Zhāng Jièbīn. The work includes a substantial appended proven-recipe section (Tàijí guāngtǒng 太極光統, Gànxuě dān 紺雪丹, Qīnglián sǎn 青蓮散 etc.) and preserves notable early-modern case-records of aconite-tonification misuse and brain-abscess death.
