Gāo Shìqí 高士奇 (1645–1703), zì Dànrén 澹人, hào Jiāngcūn 江村 and Pínglú 瓶廬, native of Píng Hú 平湖 in Zhèjiāng (registered in Qián Táng 錢塘). One of the most powerful Hàn Chinese close ministers of the Kāngxī 康熙 court, he came to the emperor’s attention by his calligraphy, was promoted into the Nán shū fáng 南書房 (Inner Court Study), and rose to be Junior Vice-President of the Court of the Imperial Household / Junior Vice-Director of the Imperial Equipage Department (詹事府少詹事). His decades of intimate access to the throne are documented in his own diary-collection Hú lú jì 扈蹕記 and Péngshān mì jì 蓬山密記*. Catalog dates 1645–1704; CBDB gives 1645–1703, followed here. His major Chūnqiū contribution is Chūnqiū dìmíng kǎo lüè 春秋地名考略 (KR1e0105), commissioned in 1685 alongside the Chūnqiū jiǎngyì 春秋講義 imperial-lecture project; Yán Ruòqú’s 閻若璩 Qián qiū zhā jì 潛邱劄記 alleges that the actual drafting was done in part by Xú Shèng 徐勝 (zì Jìngkě 敬可) of Xiùshuǐ 秀水. Gāo also produced major works in art-history (Jiāngcūn xiāo xià lù 江村銷夏錄), epigraphy, and diary literature, the latter included in the Kanripo collectanea (KR4 division).
