Bào Xiāngáo 鮑相璈, zì Yúnsháo 云韶 (fl. Dàoguāng – Xiánfēng era, ca. 1820–1860), Qīng official-physician from Shànhuà 善化 (modern Chángshā 長沙, Húnán) who served in office in Wǔxuān 武宣, Guǎngxī. Compiler of the Yànfāng xīn biān 驗方新編 (KR3ed108), one of the most widely-circulated popular formularies of the late Qīng — 8 juǎn in the 1846 original, 99 categories and over 6,000 formulas covering internal medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, surgery, and emergency rescue. The work was reprinted in dozens of editions through the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (the first major reprint being the 1849 Guǎngzhōu Hǎishān xiānguǎn edition) and was widely re-issued in 16-, 18-, and 24-juǎn expansions. Bào’s editorial principle favoured jiǎnyì (simple-and-easy) recipes accessible to ordinary literate families. Biographical detail beyond the work is sparse; he does not appear in CBDB.
