Lù Shànjì 鹿善繼 (1575–1636), zì Bóshùn 伯順, hào Qiányuè 乾岳, posthumous title Zhōngjié 忠節; native of Dìngxīng 定興 (Bǎodìng prefecture, Héběi). Jìnshì of Wànlì 41 / guǐchǒu (1613); rose through the Ministry of Revenue to Bīngbù lángzhōng and Tàichángsì shàoqīng. A Wáng Yángmíngxué exponent in the Northern Héběi tradition (the Běifāng wángxué of Sūn Qífēng 孫奇逢, with whom Lù was a close associate) and an outspoken member of the Dōnglín circle in its post-1626 phase. During the Tiānqǐ persecution of 1625, when the Dōnglín liù jūnzǐ including 魏大中 were arrested, 魏學洢 hid at Lù’s Dìngxīng residence under disguise while attempting to ransom his father — an episode preserved both in the Máoyán jí (KR4e0243) and in Lù’s own Wúzhī táng yíshū 無知堂遺書. He retired in Tiānqǐ 5; recalled in Chóngzhēn 9 / 1636 in the emergency of the Manchu invasion, he died defending Dìngxīng against the Qīng cavalry on the eleventh month, twenty-eighth day of that year.
